Joint meal & rally at Salvador Allende Platz

“Who was Salvador Allende actually?” – With this question in mind, we stood on Salvador Allende Square in Lobeda last Sunday, November 3, and took a closer look at the man who gave this place its name – on the occasion of his inauguration as president of Chile over 50 years ago. He took office to fight against social inequality and injustice & was supported by a broad movement on the streets.

And what does this have to do with us? Allende is an example of the fact that it is possible to change society when many dissatisfied people join forces. During his presidency, the prices of basic prices for basic foodstuffs were fixed, education and healthcare were completely free.

We want to build on the struggles in Chile, where people organized themselves in companies and
organized themselves, solved their problems among themselves and where pressure from the streets and where pressure from the streets brought a government to power that wanted to implement real change.

After the rally, we went together to Emils Ecke, where activists had already been busy cooking a delicious Chilean stew in the morning. In addition to the participants in the rally, many other activists, members and interested parties from the neighbourhood union also came. Many good and encouraging conversations arose during the meal, we were able to come together and get to know each other better.
